Etsy shipping revenue is not free of fees
Illustrative US order: item 30, shipping charged 5, no tax or ads, cost 12 and postage 5. Transaction fee at 6.5% is 2.275; processing at 3% + 0.25 is 1.30; allocated listing fee is 0.20. Contribution is 35 − 3.775 − 12 − 5 = 14.225, displayed as 14.23. Fees here are calculated without component-level cent rounding; reconcile actual platform rounding with your statement.
FBA vs FBM: compare the costs you actually face
At price 30, referral assumption 15% and landed cost 10, 15.50 remains before fulfillment. FBA fee 5, inbound 1 and storage 0.50 leave 9.00. FBM postage 6 and labor 1 leave 8.50. These are illustrative inputs, not Amazon fee rates or a forecast.
Compare fulfillment scenariosWholesale needs its own margin check
Cost 10, 5% fee and 0.25 allocated fixed fee require at least 18.64 to meet a 40% contribution margin after upward cent rounding. A retail-price multiplier alone does not verify this.

Average order 30, variable cost 12 and 3% + 0.30 fees leave 16.80. Fixed event cost 250 requires 15 orders; a 200 target result requires 27. Include owner time once and remember unsold inventory is not a sale.
