Illustrated candle gift-set packaging costs — count materials and labor once

Start with the decision

A finished candle cost may already include its vessel, label and making labor. A bundle should add the new gift box, insert and assembly time, not repeat those existing costs. Separate finished candle cost from extra gift-set work.

Worked calculation

Two candles at 6 each plus gift packaging 2 and assembly labor 1 cost 15 per set. At a 27 offer price with 3% + 0.30 fees, contribution is 10.89. Fifty sold sets give 544.50 under these assumptions.

Check incremental packaging and gift-set stock

For a product plan, total cost is the sum of distinct materials, packaging and labor inputs. Add bundle or event costs only when they are incremental; avoid adding any component twice.

Price the set from finished-unit costs plus only the incremental bundle work: box, insert, ribbon, extra label and assembly time. Check whether the candle’s normal label and packing labor already sit in its unit cost. If the bundle needs a different vessel, protective packaging or shipping carton, add those distinct items once.

Check the changed-cost scenario

Before offering a discount, calculate contribution per set and multiply by a conservative sales scenario. Separately check finished candle counts, packaging stock and safe production capacity. A profitable paper price cannot fulfill orders if one scent or box is unavailable, and a stock planner does not replace product safety or shipping tests.

Fifty sets require 100 candles. With 80 available, only 40 full sets can be assembled before replenishment. If gift packaging rises from 2 to 3, contribution falls to 9.89; test the new cost before retaining the same discount.

Use the example with your own inputs

Fifty two-candle sets need 100 finished candles. With 80 available, the shortage is 20; packaging inventory and safe production requirements still need separate checks.

Scope and source checks

These are planning examples, not actual seller results. Keep currency, tax basis and cost allocation consistent. Enter your own figures and reconcile with your records; tax, demand, refunds and unlisted business costs can change the outcome.
